What type of fabric are these sidewalls made of? Is it light weight, parachute-like fabric or heavy plastic?

That is a fair description, yes, it is a lightweight plastic material. Caravan does also offer professional sidewalls that are made with polyester, the same material used on the tops of their canopies. You can find those below: Canopy Accessories
