How does this hood mount to the fireplace opening? Does it screw to the under side of the lintel? Can it be mounted with "L" brackets (attached to the lintel) and rise above the top of the opening an inch or so? My fireplace is 36" wide by 28" high.

Our Answer:

This is not a universal hood; it is only for use with select models of Empire-manufactured gas fireplaces. We do offer some universal hoods, including some with a lintel mount. Please see below for one example: Elite Square End Fireplace Hood with Lintel Mount - 36" x 4" - ESH436 You can download and view the installation instructions on that item page to see how this hood is attached for your fireplace.

I am told with my vent free gas logs I should have a hood, but I'd hate to cut the 28" down to 24".
