What is the maximum temperature of a Smokey Mountain log set inside of a fireplace? I am considering converting my wood burning fireplace. The current fireplace has a metal box and it needs to be painted. Do paints have maximum exposure temperature?

Our Answer:

Because this particular gas log set does not have a listed temperature limit, I would recommend painting the box with a high temperature paint that is rated to 1,200 degrees. This is standard for all vented and vent free gas logs, while wood burning appliances recommend a 2,000 paint.
