I was told that to be airtight you had to have two doors that sealed in the middle rather than the bi-fold doors. When I asked for airtight doors you sent me information on bi-fold doors. Are your bi-fold doors airtight?

Our Answer:

This will depend on the type of bi-fold doors. The bi-fold doors that are specified for use with manufactured fireplaces are not airtight and will usually have an 1/8 inch gap between the panels. However, masonry bi-fold doors, such as the units made by Stoll, are designed to close tightly and will allow only the needed combustion air to flow into the firebox. Most of the masonry style door assemblies work in this fashion.
