Hello, we recently purchased a home without a key for the gas fireplace. The closest ratchet size that fits over the valve is 3/8", but that is a hair too big. Would you know the correct size to order?

Our Answer: The closest standard key size that would be close is a 5/16" key. However, it is possible that the gas valve uses a manufacturer specific key that is not a common size and it could be metric. With the wall escutcheon removed, use a tape measure to determine the width of the valve stem. That should identify the exact key size needed.
