I have a ventless gas fire place and my mantel gets so hot that the paint of the surround under the mantel has bubbled from the heat. What can I do to fix this? Would a fireplace hood help?

Our Answer:

A hood can indeed serve as a good way to protect your mantel from damage. The projection of the hood will depend on how much space is between the fireplace opening and the mantel. Projection of the mantel will also be key.
