I have a Majestic fireplace and it has a mantel above it, about 18" over the top vent where the heat comes out. It seems to get very hot on the mantel. Is that normal?

Our Answer:

Yes, it is quite normal for a mantel above a fireplace to get hot. As long as the mantel clearances for your fireplace model are met, you should have no reason for concern. A couple of options would be to get a hood for your fireplace, or to get something like this HomeSaver Mantel Heat Shield.
