When installing a gas fireplace insert into a masonry chimney with an existing co linear venting, how do you determine what tube is the exhaust & intake?

Our Answer:

Most co-linear venting systems will have a stamped label made into both the appliance adapter and the termination cap that will identify exhaust from intake. You can also inspect the inside of either liner. While gas appliances do burn relatively cleanly, there should be some slight discoloration inside the exhaust liner. One last way to check is to completely disconnect the liners and operate the appliance for a few moments to see which collar vents exhaust.
