What is the best firewood to burn? What starter log works best? I have a fireplace with insert and blower.

Our Answer:

It is best to burn seasoned hardwoods, such as hickory, birch, and oak. These types of woods have a higher BTU content and make for longer burning, hot fires. For starting the fire, it is actually best to build a small fire using crumpled paper and a fast burning softwood, such as pine. Once the kindling has started to burn in, you may place the first of the hardwood logs in position.
