How do I measure my current woodburning fireplace so I can find an insert to update it?

Our Answer:

In order to provide recommendations for a woodburning insert, please reply with the following information: Is the existing fireplace a brick/masonry unit? What is the front width (left to right), rear width, depth (front to back) and opening height of the fireplace? What is the size of the existing chimney, both in area inside the flue tile and height from the fireplace floor to the cap? With this information, we would be happy to offer suggestions for your application.
