What are the pros and cons of single chimney caps vs. one cap that covers both flues?

Our Answer:

The main advantages to a single cap are a cleaner look and generally lower cost overall. It will also eliminate the need for determining the proper lid size needed for the side by side flues. However, a single cap can cause back drafting issues, if the flues are close to each other. Individual caps, especially if they are staggered in height, will help to avoid the individual flues pulling against one another. Obviously, there must be enough clearance between the caps so that they do not bump one another. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
