Our Answer:

You are correct - our CPF-54110 is indeed designed to be mounted to the underside of a mantel to protect it from the rising heat of your fireplace. Is your tapestry hung directly above the fireplace, thereby above the mantel? If so, I think your mantel would be doing the most work in protecting your tapestry. It is acting similar to a fireplace hood. It forces the heat out and away from the wall (and your tapestry) above it. Our CPF-54110 would definitely help protect your mantel from the heat of the fireplace but I do not believe that it will help your mantel protect your tapestry. Unless, of course, you mount it in such a way that allows it to protrude forward from the mantel; effectively making your mantel deeper and forcing the heat out further from your tapestry.
