Is there a way to add the Attic Insulation Shield to an already existing chimney pipe without taking the pipe apart?

Our Answer:

As the shield comes from the manufacturer, no there is not. The only way to install the shield around an existing chimney would be to make a vertical cut in the shield assembly, wrap it around the pipe, then rivet the assembly back together along the cut. This can be difficult to do if you do not have the proper tools and it is always a better idea to remove the chimney pipe if at all possible. Another option would be to fabricate a shield out of sheet metal, but again, you must have the proper tools to do this.
