I have an older vent free natural gas insert and the pilot went out and i cannot , for the life of me, restart it. I can not find my instruction manual. I have held a flame next to the pilot sensor but it simply will not ignite. Can you please help?

Our Answer:

Does the pilot light but not simply stay lit? Or does it not light at all? If the latter is the case, then the cause could be a defective control valve. In this case, the valve would simply not be opening to allow gas to flow to the pilot assembly. If the former is the case, when the pilot lights, how long will it stay lit before it extinguishes? A defective valve could cause this concern, as well. However, it is more likely that it is being caused by a defective thermocouple. What is the model of your fireplace?
