Our Answer:

This unit would work just fine in a coastal climate. However, it is an insert and not a free-standing fireplace. As such, it must be installed into an existing fireplace and must also be vented vertically. Per these details, it would not be appropriate for your application. However, we have a very similar unit that offers the features for which you are looking. Please follow the below link to check out this item. In Response to Question:

We are building a home and are looking for a rectangular gas fireplace. It needs to be a propane unit that will vent to the outside wall behind the fireplace but without the need for a chimney. Would this unit work for that purpose? Also, does it have a wall switch to start the fire or how does this unit work? Can it be elevated off the floor and will it be suitable for a coastal climate?
